Myrtha in Finland to Discuss Pool Innovation

On May 28, 2025, the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki hosted an event dedicated to the future of aquatic infrastructure, organised by the Finnish Swimming Federation with the participation of Myrtha Pools and, its local dealer, AllasTech. The event gathered around 50 participants from across Finland, including institutional representatives, architects, technical experts, and sports professionals. It served as an important opportunity to exchange ideas on key topics such as sustainability, responsible design, and athlete health.

Mikko Helasvuo, advisor at the Ministry of Education and Culture, provided an up-to-date overview of the national landscape of sports facilities, focusing on funding, construction standards, and future prospects.

Roberto Colletto, the CEO of Myrtha Pools, highlighted the company’s six Olympic appearances and its dedication to promoting swimming at all levels. Myrtha Pools shares the Finnish Swimming Federation’s values of sportsmanship and youth development and is helping the organisation to modernise the country’s aquatic centres using sustainable, cutting-edge technologies.

Environmental impact and public health

On the topic of environmental sustainability, Mark Gowdrich, founder and director of the architecture firm GT3 Architects, emphasised the importance of passive building techniques and energy efficiency. Two notable examples were the aquatic centres in Knaresborough and Spelthorne, the latter featuring football fields built on the roof of the swimming pool.

Focusing on environmental impact and health, Myrtha Pools Technical Director Innocenzo Pochini outlined the company’s vision for the future of pools: smart, sustainable, and environmentally conscious. This includes the use of recycled or low-impact materials and solutions such as Myrtha Breathe, a system that improves air quality in indoor aquatic centres, protecting the respiratory health of athletes, users, and staff.

The issue of air quality in indoor aquatic facilities was also addressed by Dr. Maarit Valtonen, Chief Medical Officer of the Finnish Olympic Committee. She highlighted the importance of healthy environments to prevent respiratory conditions in athletes, such as asthma and recurring infections.

The Helsinki meeting marked a concrete step toward a new generation of aquatic facilities: healthier, more sustainable, and more intelligent. And once again, Myrtha Pools is at the forefront of this transformation.
