August 1995. The Prater Bad swimming pool Complex in Wien was selected to hold the event, even if the facility did not have enough suitable seats to accomodate the large number of spectators expected to attend water-polo matches.
The Municipality of Wien was informed about Myrtha Pools’ skills in building temporary facilities for aquatics international events, therefore appointed the company to build a water-polo pool on the athletics track of the Prater Stadion, which is equipped with 50,000 seatings.
The time available for the installation was very short, being the stadium already booked for a rock concert till July 9th; besides this, it was not possible to build masonry works, since the surface of the athletics track had to be safely preserved.Anyway, the installation was completed by July 22nd. The pool was equipped with complete water filtration and disinfection system, heating system and circular balance tank. A sand floor was positioned on a geotextile surface to preserve the athletics track.
At the end of the Championships, the pool had to be dismantled in a very short time, as an international football match had to be hosted a week later at the Prater Stadium. Most of the pools’ components were used afterwards for building a 25x10m residential pool in Wien.
