From Vietnam 2003 to Thailand 2025: Myrtha Pools and the SEA Games

From Vietnam 2003 to Thailand 2025, Myrtha's journey through the SEA Games continues. Over the past two decades, Myrtha Pools has contributed to several editions of Southeast Asia’s most prominent multi-sport event, including Indonesia 2011, Myanmar 2013, Philippines 2019 and Cambodia 2023. Each project has helped expand access to modern aquatic facilities across the region while supporting the Games’ increasing scale and ambition.

The SEA Games themselves have a long and fascinating history. First held in 1959, they have grown from a small regional gathering into one of Asia’s most dynamic sporting celebrations. Swimming has been part of the programme since the inaugural edition, consistently launching the careers of athletes who go on to shine at continental and Olympic level.

The 2025 edition brings this tradition to Bangkok, where 9,366 athletes from 10 nations are expected to compete across a wide range of sports.

Thailand is one of the countries that has hosted the SEA Games most frequently, underlining its deep and longstanding commitment to sport in the region. This year, the swimming events will be held at the newly renewed aquatic venue in Hua Mak (Bangkok), where Myrtha technology has played a central role in the transformation. The refurbishment covered the entire aquatic complex, upgrading circulation areas, deck spaces and spectator zones to align the venue with contemporary competition standards. At the heart of the project is the modernised 50-metre pool, equipped with a movable bulkhead, starting blocks and removable headwalls to provide adaptable race configurations. Remarkably, the full renovation was completed in just 60 days.

Beyond its technical features, the venue now offers athletes an enhanced environment in which to perform, a meaningful aspect of an event renowned for spotlighting emerging talent. Many of Southeast Asia’s strongest swimmers have taken their first major steps at the SEA Games, and the renewed Hua Mak pool is set to provide the stage for the next generation.

As Bangkok welcomes the SEA Games once again, Myrtha is proud to support a competition that continues to inspire athletes and shape the sporting landscape of Southeast Asia.
